1998 – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves the use of Viagra, a medication originally developed to treat high blood pressure, for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence). Viagra comes to be known as “the little blue pill.”
1999 – Cher is on top of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 25 years with “Believe.” The song has been credited (and criticized) for its use of the Auto-Tune voice-altering effect, which many vocalists then began using in their own recordings, and still do today.
